With the hot streak that Anthony Davis is on currently, the narrative around him is certainly positive. Many believe he is on his way to being an MVP candidate this season after dropping 40+ points in back-to-back games recently. But a former Los Angeles Lakers player gave his critique of Davis, and this has seemingly not gone well in the current AD climate.

Matt Barnes, the former Los Angeles Lakers forward, compared Anthony Davis to Milwaukee Bucks?superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. According to Barnes, Davis should have Giannis’ “motor and mindset” to be the “best player ever created”.

In the recent episode of ‘The LADE Show’, Barnes conceptualized a player that had the lethal combination of both Giannis and Anthony Davis. “If AD had Giannis’ mind and motor, oh, it’d be over. It would be unfair. God knew not to do that, though.”

Fans had mixed reactions to this claim. One fan said, “Recency bias is a hell of a drug.” Others believed it was a “dumb” statement for Barnes to make. While some fans agreed that Antetokounmpo was indeed the “benchmark” for players.

Here are some of the reactions from NBA Twitter:

Davis just finished a game with a season-high of 55 points and 17 rebounds against the Washington Wizards. Lakers fans will be hoping he can now remain healthy and continue to produce such high-level performances as the 17-time champions look to secure a playoff spot after a poor start to the season.

Anthony Davis is at his prime again

Matt Barnes recently acknowledged all of Davis’ skills. Barnes said that Anthony Davis has “more talent” than anybody else in the league. He said AD has the potential to be a DPOY or an MVP. He added that he has the ability to score, dunk, and block shots.

Anthony Davis’ skill sets are vast and undeniable, however,?Giannis Antetokounmpo’s work ethic is arguably the stuff of urban legend. Coupled with his athleticism, it is not a surprise that he has looked his best so far this season.

Both players have been crucial pieces for their teams. While?Anthony Davis and Giannis Antetokounmpo?certainly stand out from the crowd, the question lingers on whether the hybrid that Matt Barnes talked about would be as potent as he says it is.

He added, “…I’ve just been feeling really good and confident on all my shots, playing with a great pace. Guys have been doing a great job of finding me.”
