With the NBA trade deadline less than a fortnight away, league sources are flooding social media with tremors of major trades between teams. Though most teams seeded at the top with championship aspirations seldom engage in needless trades, according to an NBA insider, it might just be the case in Mile High City. As per the latest developments, Nikola Jokic and Co. are set to part ways with a player in exchange for lucrative assets.
However, Denver Nuggets fans were not keen on their team’s plans leading up to the trade deadline. Many expressed their disapproval of the trade in question and lobbied for another alternative.

Deep into the 2022-23 season, the Denver Nuggets have emerged as one of the top teams in contention for the title. Nikola Jokic, the reigning back-to-back MVP, has willed the team to an impressive 34-16 record, which places them at the top of the Western Conference. With Jamal Murray’s return, many expect the Nuggets to make a deep playoff run.
However, the Nuggets seem to be testing the waters in the trade market leading up to the NBA trade deadline. According to a report by the Denver Post, the top brass in Denver are gauging the value of second-year forward Bones Hyland. As per Mike Singer, the Nuggets are taking calls from around the league in an attempt to flip Hyland for more.
Singer’s sources have reported that they are seeking two-way players on the same level as Hyland with a similar contract. Moreover, they believe they have traction on potentially acquiring a first-round pick through pick compensation. The young forward is currently on his rookie deal and is expected to make over $6.4 million over the next two years.

The Nuggets drafted Hyland in the 2021 NBA draft with the 26th overall pick. In his rookie year, Hyland bagged an All-rookie selection with impressive numbers across the board. However, the 22-year-old has taken his game to the next level this season. He is currently averaging 12.3 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 3.0 assists. Moreover, he is shooting over 38% of his shots beyond the arc.
Consequently, the undeniable contributions of Hyland forced fans to question the team’s move to potentially ship him out of town.
Fans not pleased with the Nuggets’ plans
Many fans were not keen on the idea of trading Hyland for picks. As the news surfaced on social media, it met with major backlash from Nuggets’ fans.
