The US government is still unable to bring WNBA star Brittney Griner back home. There have been several discussions between the US and Russia over her. And it is being proposed that there could be a prison swap to bring her home. During the WNBA offseason, Brittney plays for the UMMC Ekaterinburg team in the Russian Premier League. While traveling to Russia, she was arrested at an airport near Moscow in February. She was arrested because her luggage contained cannabis oil vape cartridges. Griner now faces a prison sentence of up to 10 years.

Now, there has been a rare photo of Griner and NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal doing the rounds. The 7ft 1in Big Shaq would make anyone look smaller when they stand near him. However, that wasn’t the case when he met a young Brittney Griner. The rare photo of the two centers was taken during Shaq’s time with the Phoenix Suns. At the time, Griner has not joined the WNBA yet.

Later, Griner would also play for a team from Phoenix, the Phoenix Mercury. In 2013, the Phoenix Mercury selected Griner as the 1st overall pick of the WNBA draft. She has won the WNBA championship with the Phoenix Mercury in 2014.

Similar to Shaq, Griner is also a dominant player on both ends of the court. She has won the WNBA scoring title twice while also winning the WNBA Blocks title 8 times. Griner has also won the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year award twice. Playing for the national team, she has won two Olympic gold medals. Griner was also selected for the WNBA 25th Anniversary Team in 2021.
