After watching the NCAA women’s basketball final, First Lady Jill Biden made a unique proposal. The 71-year-old wanted both the March Madness Finalists LSU and Iowa State to be present at the White House. This was unconventional considering only the winners usually get the honor. Iowa’s Caitlin Clark politely declined the invitation understanding the ethics of competing. However, LSU star Angel Reese was enraged by the decision even though President Biden eventually ended up inviting only the winners of the men’s and the women’s NCAA tournament.
But things have changed since then. Recently, LSU accepted the invitation to visit the White House to celebrate their historic win. Speaking about her stance in an interview, Reese recently addressed the situation, prompting some not-so favorable reactions from hoop fans.

The 20-year-old basketball sensation did an interview with ESPN to address the recent developments. The looming question was obvious, will Angel Reese join her LSU teammates to visit the White House? While she did initially decline the invitation, the Bayou Barbie has changed her mind. Following the recent National Championship win, Reese admits to feeling ‘hurt’ by Jill Biden’s proposal. In the moment, they felt their privilege as champions was taken away from them.
However, after taking a step back, Reese realized it is an opportunity of a lifetime for both her and her teammates. Discussing her change in heart with ESPN, she said, “I know my team probably wants to go for sure and my coaches are supportive of that. So I want to do what’s best for the team. If they would like to go, we decide we are going to go, then we’re going to go. But it was tough just seeing that at the beginning.”
“I’m a team player. I’m going to do what’s best for the team,” she added.

Reese clarified that she had been “hurt” by the First Lady’s initial decision because it seemed to undermine the team’s hard work. But she has decided to go for her team. However, Reese’s words induced similar reactions on the Internet that her ring finger gesture towards Caitlin Clark had prompted.

Here are some other things the fans said about the 20-year-old accepting the White House proposition:
She wasn’t a team player when she was speaking out and claiming that the whole team wasn’t going to go to the White House… now she has to walk it back because we find out she wasn’t speaking for the team. With age comes humility and wisdom, a lesson she will learn in time.
