According to Abdul-Jabbar, the film is predictable and also a melodramatic mess. Additionally, he asserted that he didn’t care what happened to the characters.
Kareem wrote, “Everyone is so earnest in this three-hour movie that you want to like, just for their sakes. And I loved director-writer Damien Chazelle’s Whiplash and La La Land. But Babylon is such a predictable, soulless, melodramatic mess that I couldn’t get there. The main problem is that I didn’t really care what happened to any of the characters.”
Jabbar labeled Robbie’s character as a ‘wannabe starlet desperate for attention and validation’ while talking about how Pitt’s character failed to live up to expectations. To top it all off, he described the ending as cliche.
How has the film fared at the box office?
Released on the 23rd of December, makers expected the film which was made with a budget of $80 million to do well at the box office. However, it had a disastrous start as it collected only $4 million in the first four days according to reports.

The 3-hour runtime of the film might have played a part in its poor performance. Additionally, bad ratings on popular websites like Rotten Tomatoes and CinemaScore have also played a part in its disastrous opening collection.
