WNBA star Brittney Griner came into the news once again earlier this month. She was caught up in a major airport fiasco roughly a year after her highly publicized arrest in a Russian airport for drug charges. On the 10th of June, the Phoenix Mercury star was harassed, which raised some eyebrows about the WNBA’s security situation. Days after this major controversy, the WNBA star has given her two cents.
When asked about the earlier incident, Griner had a lot to say and bashed the WNBA authorities. Moreover, her revelations also shed light on an underlying issue.

Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner has faced a lot of media and fan attention over the past year. After all, she spent a long time in a Russian prison before the Joe Biden administration brought her back home with a prisoner swap deal.
She returned to playing this season having missed the entirety of last year. While there have been visible changes in the WNBA after her arrest, there are still some issues.
One of them happens to be logistics. Apparently, Griner was allowed to travel in a private plane by the WNBA before the June 10th incident where she was harassed by a YouTube personality at the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. However, she still traveled on a commercial plane, which ultimately caused the incident.?
As per ESPN, Griner says, “It’s a shame that it had to get to rock bottom because I feel like waiting for something to happen and then making a change … you don’t know what that ‘something’s’ going to be. We’ve all seen what can happen in this world. And when you play the ‘let’s-wait-and-see game,’ you’re really playing with fire. You’re playing with people’s lives.”
Following this incident, it’s still unclear how the Mercury team is commuting. According to sources, their logistics have been kept a secret due to security reasons.
How has Griner performed this season?
The 7-time WNBA All-Star missed the entirety of the 2022-23 season following her highly publicized arrest in Russia. However, the 2014 WNBA champion is back like she never left.
