Stephen Curry is all set to become a billionaire after signing a lifetime deal with Under Armour. Curry will become the third-ever player in NBA history to hit the billion-dollar mark. The All-star point guard from the bay area has further earned hundreds of millions in salary and endorsements over the years. Steph has also donated millions to charitable causes, along with his wife, Ayesha Curry.

“Impact, not legacy.”?These are the three words used by the 4x NBA champion, Stephen Curry, to describe his and his wife’s charitable work. The couple was also recently featured on the cover page of the Town and County philanthropic issue. In the feature, the couple talked about their organization based in Oakland.?

Stephen Curry and his wife deny ”Saving the world” praises

Stephen and Ayesha Curry founded a non-profit organization called Eat, Learn, Play in 2019. The organization is based out of Oakland. The non-profit focuses on improving the lives of underprivileged children in and around the Oakland area. Since its inception, the foundation has aided thousands of children in Oakland; by constructing playgrounds and schoolyards throughout the city. They have also distributed over 500,000 books, over 25 million meals, and 2 million pounds of produce.

The star couple in Hollywood has a lot of contacts and influential connections. The couple could have taken their foundation global. However, they instead chose to fix the problems plaguing society closer to home. The couple also denied the narratives surrounding their foundation, saying that they are trying to ‘Save the World.’ Ayesha Curry remarked when asked about this, “We’re definitely not trying to do that. We’re trying to help push our community forward. Then we can talk about other places.” Furthermore, Ayesha reaffirmed that her foundation’s goals and focus were on the welfare of her community and that they would focus on other places later.?

After marrying, having kids, and living there for 13 years, the couple decided to go to Oakland. The trigger came in 2019. In 2019, the Golden State Warriors, after 47 years, decided to move to San Francisco. The area is more developed and affluent when compared to Oakland. San Francisco also suffers from a lack of diversity and inclusion in the community.

Their foundation, ‘Eat. Play. Learn’, further aims to provide innovative and open-source solutions for enhancing childhood’s three most basic functions; Eating, Playing, and Learning.

In the interview, Steph concludes,?“It’s just getting started, right?”. The couple has taken the foundation very seriously. Throughout the piece, the couple emphasized the fact that they were doing this to make a real impact in the community and not bolster their legacy.

Moreover, when naming their organization, they wanted to ensure that they did not name it after some generic “Stephen Curry and Ayesha Curry foundation”?way. They want to set a precedent for celebrities and famous athletes to follow?the right way to do philanthropic work.?
