Patrick Beverley has no friends in the NBA, or so we thought. Beverley, who is known for his in-your-face attitude on the court, has one very surprising friend among his fellow players. That friend is Stephen Curry. Curry, who is leading his team in the NBA Finals, was roommates with the belligerent NBA star for a long time.

Both have contrasting personalities, in regards to their game, but have been best of friends since a young age. It’s more surprising because, during the 2019-20 season, he supposedly told Curry, “The next five years are mine“. This led to a widespread rumor that they didn’t like each other.

Beverley recently recounted this friendship in an interview. “Steph is like a brother — I don’t really talk about relationships with the people I do have in the NBA —” Beverley recounted, “Freshman year of college, roommates. USA team, roommates. Sophomore year of college, Paul Pierce camp, roommates. LeBron James camp, roommates — these are things people don’t know, but we been knowing each other since we were pups.”

Beverley is known for being a “heartless” trash talker. Hence, it was very welcome to see him having a soft side for a player like Steph Curry.

Beverley reportedly told Steph, “You had the last five years, the next five years are mine.” This trash talk supposedly took place during the period of time he was with the Los Angeles Clippers. It was their second game of the 2019-20 season when they beat the Warriors by 19 points. The Warriors had a torrid season then, coming dead last in the Western Conference. They ended up not getting invited to the NBA bubble in Orlando.

But Patrick Beverley has denied ever saying this to Curry on Twitter. If it’s not true, it is all the more surprising. On the court, he has talked trash with the likes of Chris Paul and Ja Morant but didn’t do it with Curry.
