Russell signed a massive $206 million dollar contract with Oklahoma city after the 2017 season of the NBA. He then spent every season with a different team, starting with Oklahoma, to Houston, Washington, and then the Lakers. This year might be different, as he is expected to opt-in to the final year of his contract to play with the Lakers by the end of the month. He is expected to earn more than $47 million out of this deal and it did not go well with fans. They expressed their displeasure on Twitter.
It was a debacle to have Westbrook on the Lakers as he displayed an exponentially poor performance this season. He averaged 18.5 points with 7.4 rebounds and 7.1 points while earning $47 million dollars.

To give you an idea, as per Fadeaway World, Westbrook was paid over $11, 000 per minute. The same might happen next season, and fans are angry about it. The problem here is that Russell Westbrook probably doesn’t have a choice.
What are fans saying?
The news of him planning on opting in on his contract did not come as a shock to many people. Yet fans right now are making a mockery out of the Lakers stars. A lot of the fans believe that this is probably the last year he is making that kind of money in the NBA and no other team would be interested in him. Other fans do understand his position as $47 million is too good of money to pass on.
Gonna be paid $47 million next season to perform like a G League player

Do people really think he going to say no I don’t this money? I would not walk away from that. Neither would anyone else saying that they would when they go to work making $20 an hour 😭💯

Not surprised, he’s never getting that kind of contract ever again

What a terrible terrible contract. WHAT team and WHAT GM thought giving him at least three years plus a PLAYER option was a good idea? Was it to meet the salary cap, sell tickets, fear? I need this 30:30 asap please

The Journey of Russell Westbrook
The Westbrook contract has been nothing but a headache for every team. After Paul George demanded a trade to the Clippers, the Thunder decided to rebuild and shipped Russ to Houston for a chance at contention. Westbrook was traded to Washington for John Wall after a terrific season but a dismal playoff performance.

He was then later roped into the Lakers by LeBron. Before the season, he along with LeBron and Anthony Davis was considered to be the big three of the Lakers. Many NBA experts declared them to be potential NBA finalists even before the season. What it turned out to be, is in front of everyone.
