The much-awaited Michael Jordan biopic Air had a successful theatrical premiere on April 5 and received a positive response among movie-goers. However, after the release of the film, the captain of the ship, Ben Affleck, had a special message for Jordan’s former friend, Charles Barkley. Moreover, the Gone Girl star expressed his concern about whether Chuck would appreciate the special homage dedicated to him in the film during a recent interaction with the Phoenix Suns‘ legend.
Air, directed by Affleck, portrays the iconic Nike deal signed by MJ in the late 1980s. The film also includes a stellar cast comprising Matt Damon, Chris Rock, Jason Bateman, Viola Davis, and many more. Affleck went on a busy country-wide tour promoting the film in the last few weeks. He took one of his final few pit stops at Barkley’s doorstep after the film’s release.

In the recent episode of The Steam Room podcast, Ben Affleck joined Charles Barkley and Ernie Johnson for a quick chat. Chuck welcomed the Academy Award winner with a warm welcome. He said, “This is probably our biggest star.” Affleck didn’t waste any minute as he straight away revealed a special reference to Chuck in the film. He said, “My friend Charles, whom Matt [Damon] and I dedicated an Easter egg homage, and buried in the film.” While Chuck hadn’t seen the film yet, Affleck promised that the Suns’ legend would find it funny.
He also said, “Or Else I’m in Trouble,” if he doesn’t find it funny. While there isn’t any clarity on the buried homage, there is a particular scene involving Chuck. When Matt Damon scouts NBA players for signing a deal, he gets caught up between Barkley and John Stockton.

Even though the director gave homage to Chuck in the film, the NBA legend’s relationship with MJ hasn’t been up to the mark for over a decade.
MJ-Chuck’s relationship
Charles Barkley and Michael Jordan emerged as one of the greatest off-the-court friends as they hung out at casinos and golf courses regularly. However, things went south when Chuck took a shot at MJ on live TV over a decade ago. He criticized MJ for the mismanagement of the Charlotte Hornets in 2012. Ever since the criticism, the duo hasn’t exchanged a single word in a public forum. However, things might change between the legends after Chuck watches the film.
