The Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner has been the topic of discussion in the basketball fraternity for months. The eight-time WNBA All-Star is stuck in Russia after being detained at the Moscow Airport under drug possession charges in February. Griner traveled to the country to play for UMMC Ekaterinburg in the Russian women’s basketball league. As she waits for her appeal hearing scheduled for October 25, BG is constantly haunted by the fear of working in labor camps in Russian penal colonies.

However, back in 2014, Griner revealed in her book that it was nearly impossible to wake her up as a kid. But her mother found a sure-shot way to get Griner up after an unintentional incident.

How did mother Sandra wake Brittney Griner up?

Griner’s sister Pier would come to wake her up and her method was to shake the WNBA star up which she absolutely hated. As retaliation, BG would flail her arms and occasionally smack Pier Griner when she leaned to poke at her. However, once, Brittney Griner took a shot at her mother while her eyes were closed. The 32-year-old ended up ‘clocking’ her mother in the head. After the incident, Griner’s mother woke her up from a distance and waited until she finally got out of bed.
