As the Lakers still try to get back to the Play-In position, the criticism continues to pour on the team. The Lakers’ Play-In hopes are on the brink. After their loss on Sunday versus the Nuggets, LeBron and the Lakers are most probably one loss away from missing the postseason completely.
This Lakers team definitely did not meet up to the expectations. This poor performance might go back to the decisions made by the front office. There are a lot of ‘what ifs’ as of now. Was trading for Westbrook and other veterans really a great choice?

Did LeBron James and the current Lakers try to copy the Showtime Lakers?
Anthony Davis has returned from injury but is still not looking in the best shape. Davis has averaged 23 points and 9 rebounds in 39 games played. Though he has been playing out his role well, protecting the rim and being active on the rebounds, he still has not reached his best potential yet.
“AD is a huge part of this problem. And I’m still saying, I wouldn’t trade him. But, AD has not lived up to his end of the bargain wise. And Nick, I agree, I don’t think with a healthy AD they win the championship. But, they’re a contender, I believe with a healthy AD.”

Davis has been dealing with multiple injuries. He has missed nearly half the season, just because of injuries. But when AD is healthy, the Lakers have a? great player on the floor, when LeBron sits on the bench. Davis is a scorer, rebounder, and rim protector for the team, and if he is not healthy, the Lakers are missing out on defense. Chris also mentions how the Lakers are similar to Magic Johnson’s era.

“LeBron had a great plan. We go get AD, win a title, and then as I get older, he can become the number one guy, I can be number two. It was like Magic and Kareem in reverse. Where AD is like Magic, taking over for the older guy and LeBron is like Kareem. And AD hasn’t just kept his … up his end of the bargain…”
What is the Future of the Lakers?
This season was a fail, as no one expected the Lakers to end up with such a record. After LeBron James, Davis can actually be their best player, while the management tries to build a team around him. Building a team around one player is a tough job, but can bring rewards to the team that will end up in the books. Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks are a great example, whereas the Timberwolves and Karl Anthony Towns are an example of the opposite.
