There have been some bizarre calls by referees in the NBA because of which there have been plenty of debates because of it. However, nothing tops the technical that Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers got while playing against the Detroit Pistons. And unlike most foul calls, this was a complete no-brainer because the superstar absolutely did not deserve it.

It was quite surprising to see the Sixers take a 110-102 victory over the Detroit Pistons, after that ugly start that they had. Having just lost to the New York Knicks in the game before, this was surely a big relief. However, they had to play Joel Embiid, who already had a bad knee, to get this win.

Despite injury troubles, as usual, Joel proved to be an asset on the court. Of course, he did not look physically adept in the beginning but eventually finished the night with 30 points, a whopping 18 rebounds, and 3 assists. While all seemed to be going well midway through the game, the 76ers had picked up the slack and were catching up to Detroit, an unnecessary technical was thrown at Embiid.

It was the second quarter; the Pistons were leading by one point and three minutes were left until halftime. The four-time NBA All-Star shoved a hammer on Luka Garza and got quite hyped up about it. Unfortunately, the referees didn’t see it as a celebration and gave him a technical instead. Embiid tried to contest, but they had already made the call.

This is not the Philadelphia 76ers we saw playing last season. Given, they are dealing with the Ben Simmons drama right now but that’s no excuse for slacking in their games. Their terrible start had fans worried, whether they would lose to the Pistons as well.

In fact, even towards the end of the game, they were losing their grip. Lucky for them, they were saved by the bell. However, this will not be the case every time. Embiid will not be able to put up spectacular performances each night. At least not until he is completely healthy.

This only means a trade is essential. Of course, the 76ers have made it evident that they will not let go of Simmons until they get the player they want in return. Until then, they can’t lose easy games.
