The 2023 NBA playoffs have been delivering more drama than anticipated just in the first few games of the first round. From major upsets to crazy rivalries, the NBA has been providing peak entertainment. Meanwhile, controversial incidents like Draymond Green‘s violent stomping on Domantas Sabonis have added to the drama and triggered heated debates in NBA circles. However, in a rather strange turn of events, NBA legend Charles Barkley had to face the music on live TV after an old video resurfaced in the wake of the Draymond Green controversy.

Draymond Green’s violent action during the Dubs’ loss against the Sacramento Kings has divided NBA fans. While many have chosen sides in the argument, Charles Barkley has been mostly silent on the topic. Despite his silence, NBA fans decided to bring up old clips of the Chuckster during the TNT broadcast to call him out.

In a recent episode of Inside the NBA, Charles Barkley was giving his opinion on the game between the Phoenix Suns and the LA Clippers. Unbeknownst to the Chuckster, the showrunners were waiting for the hosts to conclude, so that they can show a vintage clip of everyone’s beloved, Charles Barkley from the 90s.

The clip showed Barkley kicking Vlade Divac in game 2 of the first-round of the playoffs between the Phoenix Suns and the LA Lakers in 1993. The video was captioned with a hilarious title, pointing out the similarities with Green’s incident in Sacramento.

“Feisty undersized PF strikes the chest of opposing C with the sole of his foot, in Game 2 of their first round Western Conference Playoff matchup. Again,” the caption read. In the clip, the Philadelphia 76ers legend can be seen almost stepping on the chest of the opposition player.

After watching the clip, Barkley went into defensive mode, while his colleagues pulled his leg without missing a beat. Oh Chuck, What are you doing?” exclaimed Kenny Smith. In response, Chuck vehemently defended himself, “I didn’t say I wouldn’t step on anybody.”?

Shaq hilariously interrupted to throw off Barkley’s response? “You didn’t step on him, you just stepped out and he was in the way.”

However, the 76ers legend couldn’t care less about his colleagues trying to embarrass him on live television, as he went on to explain the difference between “stepping and stomping”.

Nevertheless, Draymond Green evidently doesn’t have it as easy as Barkley, considering his recent suspension from game 3 against the Sacramento Kings. The Warriors no. 23’s unapologetic attitude after the incident didn’t help his case. Moreover, considering the Warriors’ position in the playoffs, the game in Sacramento might be his penultimate game of the season.

Was Draymond’s suspension valid? And how does it affect the Warriors’ playoff hopes?

Only one of the two questions has a straightforward answer. If one focuses on Green’s suspension, there’s a huge question mark on the decision. Many might argue how similar incidents in the past, like Barkley’s, have gone unpunished. While others might bring up how the game has significantly changed since 1993.
