Kareem Abdul-Jabbar scored 38,387 points in his illustrious career, the most in NBA history. And James is not too far behind. Currently, he is in second place with over 37,000 points. If he stays healthy, there is no stopping him from surpassing Kareem. However, John Salley had an absurd theory about why The King won?t be able to beat the record.

Salley appeared on the show Club Shay Shay with NFL legend and sports analyst Shannon Sharpe. The two ended up talking about various things including who Salley thinks will be the next face of the NBA.
Salley thinks LeBron James will remain in the second place
During the show, Sharpe asked Salley if anyone could beat Kareem?s record for most points in NBA history. And his answer was no. Salley went on to say, ?I think they?re not gonna let him get it.?
When Sharpe asked who he was talking about, Salley stated he was talking about LeBron James. He then explained James won?t be able to beat Kareem?s record because some records “need to stand.”
Salley said, ?I didn?t agree with something Phil Jackson said to me and then I got I got into my 50s and I got it. So, I didn?t agree, but I said, ‘Phil! Kobe had 81.’ He was about, no matter what you do, he was about to get, he was about to get 104 if they would?ve kept feeding him the ball. The other side would?ve been like you know, ‘Don?t hurt him.’ But they would?ve been clearouts, and Kobe would have got 104. And he goes, ‘Well some records need to stand!’?

Salley implied Bryant was not allowed to score over 100 points that game because some records should not be broken. With this theory, he thinks James would not be allowed to beat Kareem?s record. Only time will tell whether James will be able to put his name on top of another iconic list in the record books of the NBA.
