The Milwaukee Bucks won game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals over the Atlanta Hawks. The Bucks, despite the absence of Giannis Antetokounmpo, took the game 123-112. They lead the series 3-2, and will look to close it out in the next game. However, Giannis remains to be a huge concern as he is doubtful for game 6.
The question now is whether Giannis will return for the NBA finals if the Bucks beat the Hawks. Former NBA player Channing Frye spoke about the severity of Giannis’ injury, and the likelihood of him returning.

Frye on the Giannis Antetokounmpo situation
‘The Greek Freak’ suffered a knee injury in game 5 against the Atlanta Hawks. Moreover, he has been listed as doubtful ever since. On a recent episode of The Dan Patrick Show, Channing Frye opened up on Giannis’ injury, and if whether or not he can return for game 6. He said: “There is no way he can do it. I’ve done it and we were talking with Shaq last night. It took us six weeks and i’d wear a brace just to be comfortable.”
Frye explained that the knee is not supposed to bend that way, and when the knee does buckle that way it is the worst feeling. He further said, “Unless there is some new type of technology that I don’t know of, I don’t think we see him this series. And then if they do win, which I think they are…. I don’t know if we see him for you know 3 or 4 games into the NBA finals.”
This goes to show the extent of Giannis’ injury. Giannis could potentially miss the remaining series; moreover, he may also miss the entire NBA finals.
Can Milwaukee win another game without Giannis?
The Milwaukee Bucks won the game with Brook Lopez having a monster game with 33 points and 4 blocks. In addition, Khris Middleton added 26 points, and Jrue Holiday finished with 25 points. Holiday was aggressive the whole night, posting up while also playing great defense. Giannis’ replacement Bobby Portis went on to score 22 points and added 3 steals.

However, replicating a similar performance away from home is no easy task. Trae Young still remains to be questionable for Atlanta. Hence, Hawks will look to do whatever it takes to even up the series and force a game 7 and hope ‘Ice Trae’ returns.
For the Bucks, they will have to continue being the aggressors to make up for the absence of the ‘Greek Freak’. Brook Lopez needs to continue attacking the paint and keep the offence going. On the other hand, Middleton and Holiday will need to be efficient.
