Kyrie Irving has been the talk of the town for some time now, but for all the wrong reasons. The All-star point guard currently sits at home serving a five-game suspension from his team, the Brooklyn Nets. Irving has faced major backlash in the past few weeks following his controversial comments on social media. As it stands, Irving’s future in the league remains uncertain. But this former Nets legend thinks otherwise.

Kyrie Irving has taken a massive hit to his reputation and brand after his recent shenanigans on social media. His past antics may not have had irreversible consequences, but from the likes of it, many believe his recent controversy may end his career in the NBA. But the Hall of Famer, Julies Erving, disagrees and believes he still has a future in the league.

Dr.J believes Kyrie Irving won’t lose his career over the recent controversy

A few weeks ago, Kyrie Irving reposted the link to a controversial film involving antisemitic sentiments on Twitter. A social media storm ensued, and Irving has been at the receiving end of major backlash. Fast forward to the current day, and Irving is serving an indefinite suspension from the Brooklyn Nets. Moreover, his long-time sponsor, Nike, followed suit and suspended their relationship with the All-star point guard. Many speculate that Irving might have played his last game in the NBA.

But according to Nets Hall of Famer Julius Erving, that’s not the case. In an interview with TMZ Sports, Erving shared his thoughts on the ugly situation. Dr.J believes that Irving will not lose his career over the controversy. According to him, the NBA owners are too ‘greedy,’ and Irving will find a job even if the Nets were to cut him. Erving said while walking through the LAX airport, “He’s going to end up in the league playing for somebody, no matter how toxic he is.”?Erving also had some thoughtful advice for the young guard at the end of the interview.

But not everyone has the same optimistic view on Irving’s future in the league. Only time will tell how and where his career will end. But his team, the Brooklyn Nets, are running out of time.

Three years since signing Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, the Brooklyn Nets have managed to win just a single playoff series. They have massively underdelivered on the expectations of the ‘Superteam’ it was deemed to be when it first took form. Their struggles continue this season, as they stand among the worst teams in league with an underwhelming record of 4-7 as the 11th seed in the Eastern Conference. Irving’s suspension has worsened the situation in Brooklyn.
