Even at age 38, LeBron James is having one of his best seasons. The Los Angeles Lakers star has been playing at a high level, keeping his team in playoff contention. James has won multiple NBA championships and various individual accolades in different segments of the game. He has already established his legacy, and anything he does now will only add to it. That was the case when King James passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become NBA’s All-Time leading scorer. Recently, The Captain opened up on the milestone.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record for most points in NBA history seemed untouchable. For decades, rarely anyone was able to come close to that record, and it seemed that Abdul-Jabbar would remain at the top. On the anniversary of the six-time NBA champion surpassing the iconic Wilt Chamberlain as the league’s leading scorer, Kareem tweeted his appreciation for the greats of the game.

After 20 years of dominating the league, LeBron James seemed to accomplish the impossible and surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s all-time scoring record. This achievement only went on to cement his status in the GOAT debate.

Not just the NBA world, but the entire sports world rejoiced in LeBron accomplishing such an elusive scoring record. The Captain made sure to give LBJ his flowers after the game when he broke his record.

Now, the 7’2 icon recently penned down a heartfelt note on the 39th anniversary of the Lakers great surpassing Wilt. Abdul-Jabbar tweeted, “On this day 39 years ago, I passed Wilt Chamberlain to set a new NBA scoring record.”

“Two months ago, LeBron James passed my record. That’s exactly how it should be: athletes constantly pushing each other to prove there are no limits of human achievement,” added Kareem.

Before Kareem Abdul-Jabbar took over the number-one spot, it was another Lakers legend that held it for quite some time. Wilt Chamberlain stood at the number-one spot for most points scored for quite some time before The Captain took over.

Big names in the league back then

Names like Stephen Curry, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant get tossed around a lot as some of the best scorers in the league. And rightfully so, as their numbers back up the claim made by fans.

However, before them, before the Michael Jordan era, was the era of bigs. Big men dominated the league for decades. Names like Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar ran the show back then.

Chamberlain played in the league where he started off battling Bill Russell and ended his career by locking horns with Kareem. And there are plenty of times when Wilt does not get the credit he deserves.
