Fox Sports analyst Nick Wright has received a lot of flak from fans for some of his ‘hot takes’. But some of his most controversial takes have been on Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant. In fact, Wright placed Kobe Bryant sixth in his list of the greatest players of all time and fans were not impressed.

Notably, Nick Wright placed both LeBron James and Tim Duncan ahead of Bryant on his list. In fact, he vehemently rejected the idea that the Mamba is even close to LeBron James in terms of all-time greatness.

However, the reasons the 37-year-old reporter provided for giving precedence to LeBron ahead of Kobe are not beyond criticism. In fact, Wright has been called out by fans for certain inconsistencies in his argument.

The flaws in Nick Wright’s argument

Nick Wright argued in FS1’s First Things First that LeBron James is easily ahead of Kobe Bryant in terms of all-time greatness despite having one less ring. To support his argument, he explained that James is better than Bryant even in the areas where Bryant prospered.

For example, the Black Mamba is one of the great scorers of basketball. But Wright argued that James has surpassed him in terms of total points. Furthermore, the 18-time All-Star is more efficient than Kobe Bryant and has a better three-point percentage.

Lastly, he added that LeBron James is better than Kobe Bryant in clutch shooting as well. The four-time Finals MVP has five playoff buzzer beaters while the Los Angeles Lakers legend only has one.

However, Wright’s arguments could be countered by the following points highlighted by fans. Bryant played in more slow-paced seasons in terms of points scored. Moreover, the five-time NBA champion scored over 600 playoff points in three straight years.

In addition, Bryant led the league in fourth-quarter points during the postseason from 2008 to 2010. Besides, he finished top two in four consecutive years from 2001 to 2004 in the same category.

As it turns out, an argument can possibly be made that Kobe Bryant is better in crunch time than LeBron James. Incidentally, LeBron James has scored a total of 85 points in the final five minutes of the NBA Finals, shooting 29.8% from the field.

Meanwhile, Bryant has seven fewer points, shooting 45.2% from the floor. Therefore, Bryant’s field goal percentage in crunch time during the Finals is significantly higher.
