A former Green Bay Packers star’s startling reveal recently left fans bewildered. Aaron Rodgers‘ former teammate Devin Funchess is currently a free agent and is looking for a new team. Amidst all that, the NFL tight end recently opened up about considering a career change during an interview with Bally Sports. Funchess’ confession has left both NBA and NFL fans puzzled.

NFL team Carolina Panthers selected Devin Funchess in the 2015 NFL Draft. During the first two seasons of his professional career, Funchess made 54 catches and nine touchdowns. Things got better for Funchess by the time he was in his third season. He made 63 catches and eight touchdowns during his time with the Panthers.

However, Funchess’ career started going downhill after the third season. In June 2022, the 28-year-old joined the Detroit Lions‘ practice squad before he was released in August.

After a series of unsuccessful seasons, the 28-year-old NFL star is considering switching to basketball. Shortly after the news went online, Twitter users gave their opinions on Funchess’ apparent decision. While the NFL star is yet to act on his wish to play professional basketball, he did reveal quite a handful of information regarding his career.

Fans react to Devin Funchess’ wish to switch to the NBA

During a recent interview with Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson of Bally Sports, Funchess said that he has received offers from three NFL contenders to date. However, that’s not what attracted NBA fans’ attention. Funchess shared that his initial dream while growing up was to make it in the NBA. He stated that he wanted to work on accomplishing his goal.

“I know I’d have to go overseas and play to get some film, but after that, my dream growing up was to play in the NBA. So that’s my main goal. That’s what I’m going to make happen,” said Funchess.

Additionally, he shared that he would have tried out for his high school basketball team in the past. However, his then-football coach didn’t allow him. Twitterati are rather skeptical about Funchess’ dream to pursue basketball. Many felt that he wouldn’t be able to make it. Here are a few of the reactions.

Funchess joined the Indianapolis Colts in 2019, and then the Green Bay Packers a year later. By the time he joined the Packers, the young star was hardly making appearances in the games. However, quarterback Aaron Rodgers only had praises for Funchess when he joined the Packers in 2020.

Following that, he signed a one-year deal with the Green Bay Packers during the offseason to provide some much-needed help to Aaron Rodgers. When asked about Funchess, the Super Bowl champion stated that he is an experienced player and would be a great addition to the team.

“Adding Devin, who is a veteran guy who has made plays in the league for a number of years. And he’s hungry coming in,” Rodgers said during a virtual press conference.
