Dallas Cowboys placekicker Brett Maher had a game to forget as he missed four kicks in a row during the Cowboys’ NFC wild-card game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers earlier this month. This saw Cowboys QB Dak Prescott extend his support to Maher after the game. However, NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal called out the 29-year-old Cowboys centerpiece for a very specific reason in a recent edition of his podcast.
Prescott broke up with his girlfriend days after losing against the San Francisco 49ers in the 2023 NFL Divisional Round. On top of that, even the fans took shots at the NFL quarterback after the Cowboys’ Super Bowl dream ended. Amid all this, the Big Diesel chimed in and slammed the 29-year-old with a $160 million reality check.

In the latest episode of ‘The Big Podcast’, Shaquille O’Neal criticized Dak Prescott, while discussing the four field goals missed in a row by Brett Maher in the Cowboys’ NFC wild-card game. The four-time NBA champion said, “This is how I always looked at it, the main guy [Dak Prescott] don’t step up like you’re supposed to, we’re not gonna be in that position anyway.”
He added, “If we lose by five and I miss 13 free throws, you can’t make six free throw, Shaq! I know I missed three threes… but you Mr. 100 million dollar man, Mr. man, so stay off the kicker. It ain’t his fault because as the main guy, if you don’t do what you’re supposed to do, none of that matters.”
The four missed field goals didn’t cost the Cowboys as they advanced to the next round, where they lost. Shaquille O’Neal chimed in with his point of view that his favorite team wouldn’t have been in such a position if the main guy with the $160 million contract had stepped up to the plate like he was supposed to.

Shaquille O’Neal might have slammed the 29-year-old, but in the same podcast, the Big Diesel stood beside him. The four-time NBA champion understood what he might be going through after losing against the 49ers in the Divisional Round of the 2023 NFC playoffs.
The 50-year-old said, “I know exactly what Dak is going through. Where you’re the guy, you’re always expected to win.”
