With the NFL as big as ever, it appears every major player wants a piece of the football action. The NFL has emerged as one of the biggest and wealthiest leagues in all sports, pulling in record numbers yearly. Likewise, billionaires are engaging in a heated bidding process with a storied franchise in the Washington Commanders up for grabs. Some notable names involved in the multi-billion-dollar sweepstakes are Jeff Bezos, Josh Harris, and a new perspective buyer, Tilman Fertitta. However, the Amazon founder has by far the most skin in the game. Over the past few months, the $117 Billion worth 59-year-old has aggressively pushed to come out on top in the bidding process.
However, his sour relationship with the current owner, Dan Snyder, has repeatedly failed his attempts. Moreover, Snyder and other sources have extensively revealed that Bezos will ‘never’ get the team. Now with the Houston Rockets owner also in the race, it appears Bezos’ chances have further plummeted.

Tilman Fertitta is the current owner of the Houston Rockets in the NBA. According to a report by Washington Post, insider sources believe Fertitta is also involved in the bidding process for the Washington Commanders. Reportedly, Fertitta estimated bid came in at slightly above $5.5 billion. Moreover, according to sources, Fertitta also visited the team’s training facility in Ashburn.

Interestingly, Fertitta joins a group of potential buyers, including Jeff Bezos and Josh Harris, the owner of the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers and NHL’s New Jersey Devils.
Apart from owning the Rockets, Fertitta is the owner and CEO of Fertitta Entertainment Inc, which manages dining and hospitality company Landry’s and the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casinos. According to Forbes, he has an estimated net worth of $8.1 billion. He purchased the Rockets from Leslie Alexander in 2017 for $2.2 billion.
As Fertitta joins the race to buy the Commanders, the battle has undoubtedly gotten tougher for Bezos. Moreover, with Dan Snyder’s grudgeful influence at play, it appears Fertitta could steal Bezos’ desire right under his nose.
Jeff Bezos and Dan Snyder’s sour relationship
The past three years have been a roller-coaster ride for Dan Snyder and his family as the owners of the Washington Commanders, from facing the wrath of millions, coming under fire for grave workplace misconduct allegations, and multiple name changes to now selling the team. Snyder brought the team back in 1999 for $800 million. Today, according to expert valuations, the team is valued north of $7 billion.
Late last year, the Commanders hired Bank of America Securities to accept prospective transactions involving the team’s sale. Likewise, Bezos and other interested buyers have seemingly submitted their billion-dollar bids. However, according to many sources, Snyder will ‘never’ sell the team to the Washington Post owner. Reportedly, Snyder and Bezos have a very sour relationship.
