While either party is yet to confirm the news, recent reports suggest that Snyder and Harris’ group will soon close the deal on the sale of the Washington Commanders for a whopping $6 billion. Following the new development, football veteran Pat McAfee made a surprising insinuation about NBA legend Magic Johnson’s role in ‘helping’ the Commanders owner reach the decision.
For the past several months, the sports world has made various speculations regarding the change in ownership of the Commanders. Harris and business mogul Jeff Bezos had been the frontrunners until the latter abruptly opted out of the contention.

As per reports, the Washington Commanders will soon be taken over by the group led by investors Josh Harris, and Mitchell Rales. The group also includes Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson, who already has stakes in three other sports teams. Sports analyst Pat McAfee addressed the latest update on the Commanders’ sale and had quite an interesting opinion to share.
Several days ago, Magic appeared on the TODAY show, where he gave a rather emotional response when one of the hosts asked him about the bidding war. Following that, McAfee shared that Magic’s words might have influenced Snyder in some ways to make his decision.

The 2x Pro Bowl punter recalled Magic’s interview and said, “Whenever he got a chance to see Magic Johnson on one of the biggest morning show saying ‘Mr. Dan Snyder is a good man and hopefully he will bless us’. I wonder if that was a little bit of gamesmanship for Magic to kind of get this deal to finish line.”
What did Magic Johnson say?
Over a week ago, Magic Johnson had appeared on an episode of TODAY where he expressed his wish to make the team and the city better. He said, “If they bless us, Mr. Snyder blesses us with the opportunity to be an owner, it would be an emotional day for me. And my father just died, so it would be a great moment for me for the Johnson family as well as Josh Harris who is the lead partner in this, to take the franchise and take it to another level.”
