Los Angeles Clippers star Russell Westbrook has won multiple accolades over the years and has proved himself from time to time to be a generational talent. However, he still remains one of the most polarizing players in the NBA. While many like what he brings to the court, others often find his playing style obsolete and inefficient. Lately, Westbrook has been the center of a lot of criticism and ridicule after his failed stint with the Los Angeles Lakers. However, an NFL legend has prompted a lot of backlash after surprisingly drawing parallels with him and the former POTUS Donald Trump.
Despite his misadventures in the last few seasons, Russell Westbrook still enjoys the support of a loyal fanbase. Meanwhile, three-time Super Bowl Champion Shannon Sharpe has compared Westbrook’s faithful fans with Donald Trump’s supporters. The former Denver Broncos player’s opinions quickly caused quite a stir on social media.
In fact, he received a ton of flak from the NBA world for his remarks. Sharpe stated that both the player’s and the politician’s supporters think that they are ‘never wrong‘.

Shannon Sharpe compares Russell Westbrook fans to Donald Trump supporters
The Clippers have lost five games in a row after signing Westbrook and many have blamed him for their loss. However, Paul George stood by his side and recently expressed through his podcast that the 2017 MVP shouldn’t be blamed for the Clippers’ five-game losing streak. Shannon Sharpe and Skip Bayless gave their take on George defending Russ in one of the recent episodes of Skip and Shannon: Undisputed.?
However, before giving his actual take, the now 54-year-old surprisingly said, “What I don’t get is this Trump-like support [for Russell Westbrook]. He’s been on five teams in five years. So all of these teams were wrong? Everybody, the Lakers, the Wizards, the OKC, the Houston … everybody was wrong? To them, he’s never wrong.”
Bayless agreed with him by saying, “You stumped me with the Trump-Westbrook comparison. You’re right!” Sharpe indicated that both Trump and Westbrook’s fans shared a tendency to always see their heroes as the good guys and mere victims to the evil system. This generated some heated reactions from NBA fans.
Westbrook is slowly getting back his form and has even been instrumental in some of the games for the Clippers. Russ is currently averaging 13.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 7.9 assists for the Clippers and has also improved his efficiency during his time with the team.
Sharpe received a lot of flak from fans for his opinions
As soon as fans came across the three-time Super Bowl winner’s statements, they quickly took to Twitter and flooded its comment section with their thoughts and opinions. Most of them disagreed with him and proceeded to give their own opinions. Fans, who were upset with him earlier this month were seemingly standing by Russ this time.
Here are some of the reactions of fans:
