The current owner of the NFL’s Washington Commanders, Dan Snyder, had been looking to sell the franchise and had received bids from a few prospectors including Los Angeles Lakers icon Magic Johnson and Canadian billionaire Steve Apostolopoulos. He is reportedly nearing closing the deal and sell the Commanders for $6 billion to Magic and investor Josh Harris’ group. The news has taken the NFL world by storm and drawn reactions from many.
Among those who commented on the update were speakers on a popular sports podcast who said that Magic and Harris’ group should go for NFL icon Lamar Jackson after becoming the new owners. NFL veteran Adam Jones, who is a friend of NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, was one of the speakers. He revealed his thoughts with regard to Jackson being a potential target for the former Laker.

On a new episode of The Pat McAfee?Show,?Pat McAfee along with Jones and other speakers talked about Snyder agreeing to sell the Commanders to Magic Johnson and Josh Harris’ group. At one point, one of the attendees said, “These new owners come in, they just – $6 billion for the team. They’re going to build a new stadium. Power move if you come in and be like, ‘Hey, let’s go and f*****g get Lamar Jackson,’ right?”
McAfee agreed with him and suggested that they should make a splash, build a franchise and change everything. Subsequently, the two-time Pro Bowl winner asked Jones about his thoughts with regard to Jackson being a potential target for Magic Johnson.
The 2015 Pro Bowl winner responded by saying, “Not a bad player. I like that idea, new ownership, new everything and Magic Johnson coming in – he won championships everywhere. The [Los Angeles] Dodgers won championship, the [Los Angeles] Lakers – [Los Angeles] Sparks – LAFC [Los Angeles Football Club] – everything he’s there has been big even to TJR Fridays, to Burger King. Magic got the answer to everything. So, I’m excited to see how the Commanders do about the new ownership.”
The NFL star’s comments echo the excitement that has surrounded the much-awaited deal.

Dan Snyder is getting the money he initially wanted
Snyder wanted $6 billion for the franchise as the current value of the Commanders is around $5.6 billion. It seemed he was not getting appropriate offers. The 58-year-old even rejected Tilman Fertitta, the Houston Rockets owner, on his offer of $5.6 billion. However, as the deal with Magic Johnson Harris’ group is reportedly going to be closed soon, for $6 billion, it seems that he would be pocketing the money that he initially wanted.
Interestingly, this deal will set an NFL record for the most expensive sale in league history. The Walton-Penner group set the previous record of $4.65 billion last year when it purchased the Denver Broncos.
