Both the 2023 NCAA women’s Division 1 tournament finalists Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark are under the spotlight in the past few days after Reese made the ‘You can’t see me’ gesture toward Clark. This incident sparked a debate on social media. A couple of days back, Clark made a revelation and called out the hypocrisy in light of this incident. An ex-NFL star recently weighed in on Clark calling out the hypocrisy.

The Iowa Hawkeyes guard was seemingly unhappy with how people viewed the said incident in comparison to the trash-talking that happens in the men’s game. Hence, she expressed her feelings a few days back in an interview with ESPN. The 21-year-old said, “Men have always had trash talk… You should be able to play with that emotion… That’s how every girl should continue to play.” This prompted former NFL veteran Marcellus Wiley to give his take.

In the new monologue shared on his YouTube channel, Wiley discussed a myriad of topics before expressing his thoughts on Clark’s aforementioned revelation. He said, “That is real. One thing I’ve noticed about WNBA, NBA, college, women’s, college men’s is that it’s almost promoted and marketed different. Like all the women’s game let’s look at it as a little gentler and lean into their looks or you know don’t let them just be ballers. “

He further added, “Now, sometimes they overcorrect and some of the girls, man, they are straight ballers like all [Allen] Iverson tatted up head to toe, wristbands, armbands. I’m like all right, even in the men’s game, that’s too much. So I don’t know what we’re going for – We’re going for the gentle model look or are we going for the rugged raw y’all ball.”

The former Buffalo Bills player continued, “I don’t think you should go for any look, just be a baller, and that speaks for herself. So I agree with her here.”

Clark stands by Reese

Ever since Reese made the gesture toward Clark, she has been receiving a fair amount of criticism from many across the hoops world. A few even supported her gesture, though. Meanwhile, the person who might have been the angriest with the Tigers forward actually stood by her. In the same interview with ESPN, she said, “I don’t think Angel should be criticized at all. I’m just one that competes, and she competed…” Moreover, she also showered adulation on the 2023 NCAA champion and her team.
