This year they will bring in a new assistant coach. The Knicks are finalizing a contract for Rick Brunson, Jalen Brunson’s father as their assistant coach. New York has one first-round pick in the 2022 draft. With another top player from the draft making his entry to the Knicks, their roster keeps filling with young talent. But after hiring a new assistant coach, the Mavs player may be tempted to join them.

Jalen Brunson has shown improvement year by year. This season he averaged 16.3 points on a 50% shooting from the field. Not only that, when Luka was injured during the first round of the playoffs, Brunson played a major role in leading the team past the Jazz.
Jalen showed up in the playoffs, as he averaged 21 points and 4 rebounds playing alongside Luka Doncic. Fans reacted on Twitter after the news broke.

The Mavs made it to the West Finals after 11 years. Jalen’s improvement surprised everyone, and his future seems pretty solid in Dallas. But Jalen’s father is no less of an experienced player. Rick Brunson has played 9 seasons in the NBA, playing for a total of 8 teams. Those 8 teams included Seattle Supersonics as well.
Rick spent 3 seasons in New York, the longest time he had ever spent with a team. Though his averages were mostly the lowest on the team, playing for such a long time in the league is a big accomplishment.
