Devin Booker, Chris Paul, and the Phoenix Suns’ season came to a disastrous end after the game 7 against the Dallas Mavericks. The Suns went into game 7 with their season on the line and they got blown out of their own building. Devin Booker and Co just failed to show up against Luka Doncic and the Mavs.

With all the comparisons Booker got to the late great Kobe Bryant, this performance was an embarrassment. Booker had 2 points in the first half and he went 0-7 from the field. He finished with 11 points on 3-14 shooting and had the worst plus-minus with -41. His partner in crime, Chris Paul, also failed to show up. He finished with 10 points and with a plus or minus of -39. That was the worst number of Chris Paul’s career.

With the Suns being up 2-0, everyone thought this series was over. Paul and Booker looked unstoppable and the Sun’s defense was shutting everyone down other than Luka Doncic. But the Dallas Mavericks made some key adjustments, and this changed the series.

They started attacking the Suns’ most important player, Chris Paul. They went at him from the start, not letting him take a moment on the defensive end. And on the other side, they didn’t let him get to his spots. Even when he did get to his spots, he was out of rhythm. But probably the most surprising part of this 5 game stretch was that Paul had 18 made shots and 18 turnovers. Paul has one of the best assists to turnover ratio in NBA history.

And there was one person the Suns had no answer to, and that was Luka Doncic. It didn’t matter who was guarding him; he did what he want at his own pace. And the Mavs exploited the Suns’ switch everything strategy as he went to town on DeAndre Ayton. The Suns played 7 or 8 different defenders on him but that did not matter. Luka is one step away from reaching his first NBA finals and he has to face another monster of a team in the Golden State Warriors. Meanwhile, Chris Paul would remain without a ring for another year.
