Apart from the Brooklyn Nets team management, Kevin Durant, and LeBron James; other players have been quiet to speak on the situation involving Kyrie Irving. One more active player has come out to condemn his actions. A New Orleans Pelicans player, who also happens to be the President of the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) finally broke his silence.

Pelicans’ guard CJ McCollum said that the whole socio-political situation that has transpired in the NBA thanks to Kyrie Irving was a teachable moment. Following the team’s loss to the Atlanta Hawks, McCollum acknowledged Irving’s recent apology.
“He’s displayed empathy now. I think this is a learning experience in which I don’t think he understood the magnitude of the movie because he didn’t watch it,”?said McCollum. He also stated that the Nets’ player didn’t understand the magnitude of his actions.

He believes that Kyrie Irving’s situation could teach players about the impact and the reach of their posts and endorsements. He encouraged the players to be responsible with their posts and vet everything they endorse.
“You have to vet everything you post. I think this is a situation we can all use as a learning experience for all of us as players… You have to be careful with what you’re posting,” he added.

CJ McCollum says Kyrie Irving controversy can be used as a cautionary tale
McCollum emphasized that he wants players to educate themselves on different religions and faiths to develop respect. This was also to inculcate proper communication and empower people with knowledge.
Kyrie Irving issued a statement following his suspension by the Brooklyn Nets. The player seemed to take full responsibility for his actions, having previously defended his stance. CJ McCollum believes that the franchise’s accountability was a step in the right direction.
