There is no doubt LeBron James is one of the greatest players in the history of basketball. However, the debate for the best has been on for ages. Fans and analysts have been battling for a long time to determine a winner between the King and Michael Jordan. James’ former teammate, Ray Allen got into it with a fan and denied his former Miami Heat teammate the GOAT title.

Allen was a part of the NBA’s top 75 greatest players. He is one of the pioneers of shooters in the league. The former three-point king was as good as it gets. With one of the most reliable jump shots, it was only prayers that could often stop an open shot from going in. Infamous for his clutch three against the San Antonio Spurs in Game 6 of the 2013 NBA Finals, Allen is a huge reason for James having four championships. Despite the glory together, Allen didn’t have LeBron James on top.

Allen denied James the GOAT title for several reasons. One of them being James’ inconsistencies from range. But according to a stat, James fairs pretty well against his GOAT companion.

Ray Allen said: “Is he a great free-throw shooter? Is he a great three-point shooter, is he a great dribbler? So you are saying GOAT but he ain’t even the greatest in all those categories. Think about it.”

LeBron James may not be the top shooter, but that arguably can’t be considered a flaw in his game. And a stat even shows him topping Jordan himself. Likewise, LeBron fans ripped apart the Miami Heat legend.

LeBron James has never shot below 29% from three in his long NBA career. His GOAT companion, Michael Jordan, suffered eight such seasons. While both aren’t considered great from distance, James definitely has this stat. However, it is critical to note the eras each played in. For Jordan, he had a polished offense without the three. On the other hand, LeBron is a force while going into the paint and plays in an era dominated by distance. Both of them can do without the three and likely have all the offensive tools they need.

At the end of the day, it comes down to the eye test and opinion. There is no single category or stat that decides who is the greatest. If we go by individual game stats, there are certain players who top both MJ and LeBron. The debate is a simple question of who’s game suits better. And there are no wrong opinions.
What doesn’t change is both have made it to the top of the mountain, and there is no one close to dethroning them at the moment. Who do you think is the GOAT? Let us know your views in the comments below.
