The Brooklyn Nets have not enjoyed any dominance in their first six games in the 2021-22 season. The Kevin Durant led unit has alternated between losses & wins while facing huge L’s even against teams like the Hornets. So naturally, they must be frustrated and at times it might just show.

So during the Nets’ game  against the Indiana Pacers on October 29th, 2021, one such moment arrived. The Sniper lost his cool and threw the ball into the stands, earning a guarantee of some action from the league.

Fans reacted to the fine on Kevin Durant

In the Friday night game against the Pacers, the Nets lost the first quarter like some mediocre team. After that, they picked the rhythm and took a lead before halftime. However, with under five minutes remaining in Q3 and the Nets with a marginal lead, KD let his frustration out.

Just as KD got fouled by guard TJ McConnell while still near the logo, the 3x Champion reacted by throwing the ball into the stands. To everyone’s surprise, the star did not face an ejection but rather just a technical. 

Later in the post-game interview, the Nets leader acknowledged that he sees a “hefty” fine approaching him. And it did. The league punished him with a $25000 fine for that furious toss. And here is how the Easy Money reacted to it –

That’s probably too much of grilling for a man who just got $25K off his account.

Why did the officials not eject KD?

On this night at the Barclays Center, KD scored 22 points, 11 rebs, 7 assists, and 1 steal at 70% FG. However, he was still at 18 points when this incident took place and his ejection at that point had every potential to change the game. 

Evidently, the Pacers weren’t happy with the lenient call and their coach Rick Carlisle’s words were standing proof. As the 62-YO later said, “I’m not gonna share the explanation because I don’t wanna embarrass them or the league. You don’t wanna hear…”

Maybe Durant was just trying to find the backboard with his angry toss, but since he didn’t, this could’ve got them into bigger trouble. Perhaps he will not get away with one such stunt again, without a punishment greater than just a monetary fine.
