The Clippers enjoyed a very productive off-season in 2020 and that led to them reaching the WCF after 51 years of wait. They received DeMarcus Cousins and Rajon Rondo in a bid to strengthen their bench and that worked well. However, they’re now eyeing an All-Star starter that can help their star duo and result in a championship season.

On the table, GM Michael Winger and President Lawrence Frank have various names to contemplate. But the one name that is increasingly becoming a serious priority is that of DeMar DeRozan.

Are the Clippers DeMar DeRozan bound?

DeMar DeRozan, after representing the San Antonio Spurs for three seasons, is set to become an unrestricted free agent this off-season. In those three seasons, his performance remained consistent as he averaged 21.6 points, 5.3 rebs, 6.2 assists, and 1 steal for the Spurs. Now, the Clippers are looking at him as a top prospect to join them.

This can also prove to be a win-win for DeMar who must be sick with the Spurs for losing their first playoff berth in 23 years and repeating that in 2021. Plus, the 4x All-Star guard-forward is now 31 years of age and in a need to join a unit that is ready to fight for the championship.

Interestingly, back in 2018, the Raptors had received Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green while sending out DeMar, Jakob Poeltl, their 1st round pick to the Spurs. Now, the Clippers will have to pull one such sign and trade if they want the services of DeRozan. Because if not for them, the Lakers are anyway keen on housing the All-Star

The 6’6” star made $27.74 million in the last season and his expectations will be too heavy for the Clippers to sign him in free agency. Given that Steve Ballmer will stick with the star duo in Paul George and Kawhi, they’ll have to shell out Patrick Beverley, Ivica Zubac, or Luke Kennard to complete one such deal.

Although this trade sounds tough, the Clips would need someone to cover for their injured Claw. But with DeMar struggling from the three-point range and as a regular defensive player, do you think this is a good option? Help us know what you think in the comments below.
