A veteran point guard and an all-star caliber player, Kyle Lowry can impact the game and winning like no other. So, when rumors about him wanting an out from the Toronto Raptors started surfacing, names of plenty of teams popped up. Of course, who wouldn’t jump at the opportunity of bringing in a two-way contributor who led the Raptors to two an NBA championship just two years ago. But is it that easy? Adrian Wojnarowski doesn’t seem to think so.
Lowry isn’t signed for in the 2021-22 season, so where he will land up is a mystery to all. And although Lowry’s absence from the Raptors lineup seems sacrilegious, it’s not out of the question with the free-agency market opening up on August 2.
Lowry failed to make it to the All-Star Selection for the first time in 6 years, yet he averaged 17.2 points, 7.3 assists, and 5.4 rebounds per game. The Toronto Raptors were hardly alive this entire season, standing 12th in the Eastern Conference. It’s time the superstar finds a team that can use his potential better and Wojnarowski believes that the market will be huge for him.

“You’re talking potentially $25 million – $30 million a year for Kyle Lowry, it’s going to be expensive to get at him in free agency or sign-and-trade,” he said. Not surprising, isn’t it? There have been many teams that have rumored to show plenty of interest in Lowry but the question is who can afford him?

Miami Heat has been in the rumors about chasing Kyle Lowry for what seems to be eons. In fact, they came close to signing the star during the March trade deadline, but nothing came to fruition. And after their early exit from the playoffs at the hands of the defending champions this season, bringing in someone that improves their chances at a title is of top priority.
Other than them, the San Antonio Spurs have a lot more than what Woj suggested a team would need to bring Lowry. However, the biggest competitor for everyone wanting Kyle is the Lakers. Kyle has shown interest in joining the purple and gold, but the purple and gold just don’t have the assets for a sign-and-trade deal. Hence, free agency is their only way to go through with this.
Lowry definitely fills in a lot of voids in the Lakers’ roster. From being an excellent playmaker, he can also shoot well from the arc. But bringing him in won’t be a piece of cake. With a big chunk of money already allotted to four of their players already, they will have to move some others around to make this happen. So, how far are they willing to go to bring him in?
