Two-time NBA champion Kevin Durant’s legacy took a big hit after the Golden State Warriors became the 2022 NBA champions. The fact that they won a title before and after KD was there speaks volumes. So it begs the question, did Durant need the Warriors more than they needed him?
While it is easy to speculate, KD’s impact on those championships is unquestioned. He won two Finals MVPs after producing excellent performances in the Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Recently, Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard posted an edited picture of himself and Durant together in a Trail Blazers jersey amid doubts over KD’s future with the Brooklyn Nets.

The picture sent fans into a frenzy as the possibility of them teaming up could give nightmares to the rest of the league. Meanwhile, infamous NBA analyst, Skip Bayless gave another hot take on the whole saga. According to him, Damian Lillard is asking for help from Durant to save his legacy in the same way Stephen Curry did in 2016.
Kevin Durant‘s tenure with the Brooklyn Nets might be coming to an end and teaming up with Lillard would definitely make the Portland Trail Blazers a title contender. They have played together for the USA national basketball team. KD helped them to a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. This was mentioned by Skip in his tweet as well.
Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry’s three years as teammates
After Durant joined the Golden State Warriors in 2016, they went to three straight NBA Finals. That Warriors team is widely regarded as one of the greatest accumulations of talent ever assembled. They bulldozed their way to the 2017 championship and won another again in 2018. However, in 2019, injuries and off-court issues led to the Warriors losing the NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors.
Fans were quick to voice their opinions on the hot take by Bayless. Saying they just disagreed with the take would be an understatement.
Pretty sure Steph won a chip without KD, I get that they gave up a 3-1 but Steph was a champ before KD. Dame hasn’t even been to the finals. Not a dig at Dame, just a fact. This isn’t the same.

Durant and Curry are legends of the game of basketball. Lillard arguably needs to add trophies to his cabinet to be considered in the same bracket as them. Teaming up with a player of Durant’s caliber will only help him push toward that honor.
