Nothing iconic ever gets old. This is true for everything related to Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls from the 90s era. They created historic performances, gave tabloid news, set benchmarks, broke records, inspired millions, and became immortals.
But none of it was possible if not for Scottie Pippen. Robin to MJ’s Batman, Scottie stood with His Highness in his highs and lows. So this one time, Air Jordan gifted his 6’7” teammate an insane gift to mark his respect towards the bond.

MJ’s mega present to Scottie is back in the news
Although 24+ years old, the news of Michael Jordan gifting Scottie Pippen is still very fresh. Back in 1997, MJ gifted his main man with his Ferrari. That was a generous gesture and something only a then future billionaire in Jordan could afford.
And now, after Soccie Pippen’s controversial memoir, Unguarded, is ready to reach the books shelves, this news has reemerged. May it be the case that Pippen is unhappy with many issues related to his world-famous teammate, but MJ’s act of friendliness is still young as new.

Why did Michael Jordan gift his Ferrari?
In MJ’s two-year absence from the regular season, it was Scottie Pippen who kept the Bulls tight and intact. Along with coach Phil Jackson, Scottie ensured they kept appearing in the playoffs and never allowed the team to break apart.
So in 1997, when the Bulls won their fifth title and Air Jordan accepted his FMVP award, the latter planned a giveaway for Scottie. Jordan had said, “He didn’t get the recognition that he truly deserved… When I stepped away, he matured even more… When I’m back, he shouldn’t get any less attention than when I was gone. When I won the MVP, I’ll hold true to my word, I will take the trophy, he can have the car. He’s like a little brother to me.”

It’s so refreshing to hear MJ making a case for Scottie to get the same contract as him. Perhaps Pippen can rewatch this video and iron out whatever differences he might hold with MJ.
