The Los Angeles Lakers have made headlines with their new head coach Darvin Ham taking control. But while they may have changed the leader, there are still some major worries. One of them is Russell Westbrook who was a major failure last season.
The former MVP had one of his worst performances and wasn’t able to fit in with the purple and gold. While a change in coaching could bring a change in luck for Russ, it seems the Lakers are looking at their options for guards. And they have their eyes on one young talent in Cleveland.
While the Lakers surprised everyone by not making the playoffs, there were some teams that overachieved any expectations. The Cleveland Cavaliers probably topped them all. Despite not making it to the postseason, the Cavaliers had a successful year. They saw Darius Garland emerge as an All-Star.

In addition, the remaining pieces did their part and supported the first time All-Star perfectly. However, this has left a question on Collin Sexton’s future with the franchise. With the emergence of Garland into All-Star status, there might be a place for just one of them.
And one of the teams closely looking at him is the Los Angeles Lakers. Likewise, fans had their say on the 17-time champs showing interest in Sexton.

Lakers eyeing an impossible deal?
After getting on the Cavaliers, Sexton famously had a few words for LeBron. Now, it looks like he may have a shot at finally playing with the King. With the Cavaliers heavily considering Sexton’s future, they will make sure he doesn’t land in the hands of a rival. While the Lakers are definitely considered rivals, the deal may be financially off the charts for them.
The Lakers are already over the salary cap and are paying high amounts of luxury tax. Acquiring Collin Sexton can only be done through a sign and trade, and to make that happen they need to move some big pieces.
However, just hearing the reports, NBA fans took a funny approach to the situation. They laughed at the Lakers for showing interest in the 23-year-old despite not being able to afford his price point.

Looking for an extension, Sexton’s asking price was around $100 million over five years. While it is still unclear what the Cavs are thinking, the Lakers may have a plan of action in their mind. One of the major moves would be to offload Russell Westbrook who is the highest-earning player on the purple and gold today.
If they manage to somehow land Sexton, having a score-first guard could really make things better for them.

However, just like Russ, Sexton’s poor defense will be a huge debate factor for the purple and gold. After such a terrible season in the books, the 17-time champions are looking to bounce back in style. And there is no doubt, that Jeanie Buss and her team have close eyes on potential targets.
