NBA All-Star Damian Lillard has opened up about a serious abdominal injury that has bugged him for years. In fact, the Portland Trail Blazers star has played through the injury for over four and a half years in the NBA. As a result, he would often discover a bulge over his groin area after games.

Damian Lillard has established himself as one of the most reliable stars in the NBA. In fact, he has consistently put up MVP-caliber numbers season after season as the centerpiece of the Trail Blazers franchise. The 32-year-old has also displayed great efficiency to close games during crunch time, making clutch shots from beyond the arc.

Furthermore, Lillard’s loyalty to his team, despite limited success in the playoffs, has earned him the respect of his peers. However, few were aware of the pain that he had to endure to perform so well in the past few seasons.

Damian Lillard opened up about his serious injury in a recent interview. The Blazers star addressed reporters in his annual basketball camp at the Beaverton Hoop YMCA in Portland.

I didn’t even realize how bad it was because I had been dealing with it for four and a half years,” Lillard told reporters. “It was just getting worse and worse, but I was still able to have 50 (points) on a night or I was still able to move kind of well some nights.”

I would go home and have like a bulge in my pubic area. It would be like a baseball was under there, like that type of swelling,” he added.

As it turns out, Lillard had been playing through unbearable pain in his past few NBA seasons. But the 2013 Rookie of the Year never disappointed in terms of performing for his team. In fact, he exceeded all expectations in delivering for Portland whenever needed.

I really feel as strong as I?ve ever felt. I feel healthy, 100% healthy,” Lillard said in the interview. Therefore, Portland fans can expect the same old ‘Dame Dolla’ in the upcoming season.

Incidentally, Lillard played only 29 games this season, averaging about 24.6 points. He had surgery in January of this year. The six-time All-Star describes the surgery as a great healing process after years of wear and tear in the NBA.
