The first victory is always a great feeling, even for a legend like Michael Jordan. Jordan has not only proved his prowess in the NBA but has also achieved success as a racing team owner. MJ fancied basketball for the most part of his career, but he mostly grew up watching NASCAR and baseball. His Airness spent his childhood admiring NASCAR legend Richard Petty and his exploits on the circuit. His love for the sport pushed him to assemble a NASCAR team. Eventually, the team’s first race victory left MJ in tears.

Billionaire Michael Jordan fulfilled his NASCAR dream by buying a team. He invested a whopping $150 Million in his team ’23XI Racing’ along with Denny Hamlin in 2020.

After the 2020 season, Bubba Wallace joined 23XI Racing and delivered his first race win in October 2021. In an interview with Today, Michael Jordan shared his emotions after their first victory. He said, “See the emotion from Bubba [Wallace] tells you everything about how much work he’s put into it, you know how much effort, and how much he wanted to win.” Wallace celebrated his historic victory with tear-filled eyes. Jordan further added, “I even dropped a tear because I know his passion.

It wouldn’t be wrong to call NASCAR, MJ’s first love. In fact, he has himself admitted that he watched more NASCAR than NBA in his childhood. In an interview for ‘Cigaraficionado’, Jordan said, “I also grew up a NASCAR fan, a Richard Petty fan. I was more into stock racing than I was into anything else.” Richard Petty is an ex-NASCAR driver and a team owner. He has the record for the All-Time NASCAR Cup series wins with 200 wins.

23XI Racing Team’s current line-up

Following the team’s considerably victorious campaign in 2021, 23XI Racing expanded to two cars in 2022. Kurt Busch was roped in to drive the second car while Bubba Wallace drove the first car. However, after Busch’s retirement, Tyler Reddick is the current driver for the second car. Busch announced his retirement post his accident at the Pocono Raceway. However, he is expected to return from his retirement, according to recent reports.
