Fame is a fickle thing. While it does afford you certain luxuries, it also puts you under constant scrutiny. You can earn more than $400 million, but as Chris Paul found out, it will not stop people from commenting about you.

As NBA players, you are accustomed to fans heckling you or trash-talking. But when fans go a step further and try to attack your family is when things are going too far. In the case of Chris Paul, it’s his daughter that has been facing these problems.

Most of Chris Paul’s playoff failures have been due to bad luck and injury. Whether it was those Clippers teams or that revered 2018 Rockets team with James Harden, injuries have always led to a premature end to Paul’s season.

Even last season Paul had a strong supporting cast of Kevin Durant and Devin Booker. However, it was ultimately Paul’s untimely injury that ended their season. But NBA discourse is hardly ever that forgiving.

Fans have been quick to label Chris Paul a playoff choker or a ringless legend. But now, they have taken things a bit too far. As Paul himself revealed, his family, especially his daughter, has been the object of some slander from NBA fans.

Paul highlighted these struggles, “My wife is the one who has to deal with those sleepless nights, you know… My daughtet she’s the sweetest girl… a kid from her class came up to her and said, ‘Your daddy ain’t never gonna win a championship.'”? While ribbing a player is understandable as it is part of the job, attacking their family members is perhaps a little shameful. Hopefully, this kind of behavior can change, or Paul can shut all the naysayers up by finally winning a ring.

With KD and Booker still on the team, perhaps next season can be the lucky year. New coach Frank Vogel will certainly have his work cut out for him, but he has proven his mettle and might just be what the doctor ordered for this team. The change in ownership is also promising.

New owner Matt Ishbia is taking no chances

As the new Suns owner, Ishbia has quickly made his mark on the team. The trade deadline acquisition of Kevin Durant, the incident with Nikola Jokic?and the firing of Monty Williams all point to an owner not taking any chances.
