On Kevin Hart’s show Cold as Balls, Beverley opened up about his tumultuous journey to being a regular in the NBA. After a brilliant season in Russia, he signed a four-year contract with the Houston Rockets. But the league refused to buy him out from the Russian League.
Beverley explained, “I signed a no-NBA clause overseas. I think at the time the buyout for the NBA was only $250,000.” Beverley was under the impression that the Rockets and the league would pay the buyout charge. However, his agent informed him that he’d have to pay a total of 1.4 million dollars. Beverley’s mother ended up paying the amount, but the family had to go in debt. The Lakers guard further revealed the difficult situation he was in, “I’m living with my mom in the NBA. My mom is going out to do nails, and I’m going to NBA practice.”
