In a throwback interview, Michael Jordan revealed the number of death scares he had over the course of his life. Not only that, but he also revealed a heart-rending loss he suffered during the interview in 1998.

Michael Jordan was just coming off winning his sixth NBA championship with the Chicago Bulls. He accomplished his second three-peat in a span of eight years, two of which he spent playing baseball.

After the 1997-98 season came to a close, MJ sat down for an interview with Vanity Fair. That is when His Airness revealed a series of instances that could?ve caused him to lose his life. While Jordan was an infant, he fell behind his parents’ bed and almost suffocated to death. When MJ was only two years of age, he got electrocuted, sending him flying about three feet away.

Jordan?s father was working on a car when he picked up two live wires, causing the electrocution. To top it all off, it had been raining, which could?ve caused some serious injuries to a young Michael Jordan at the time. Luckily, he was able to brush it all off and become the legend that he is today.?

The $1.7 billion worth icon also shared a story where he suffered a heartbreaking loss during his time in college. Jordan attended the University of North Carolina where he was dating a girl who lost her life due to a flood. According to the interview with Vanity Fair, MJ said, ?My girlfriend got swept away in a flood and drowned when we were in college.? But unfortunately, that wasn?t the only loss of life Mike had to face during his younger years.

His Airness once lost a friend in the ocean

One time, the Chicago Bulls legend was swimming in the ocean with a friend. A strong undertow pulled MJ and his friend deep into the ocean. A young Michael Jordan was lucky to swim back to shore, however, his friend wasn?t as he lost his life that day.

This eventually led the Bulls legend to question one?s fate in life, saying, ?How can you say there isn’t a plan for all of us??

Well, there certainly was a plan for Mike to give the world some of the most iconic instances from the game of basketball. It surely was a blessing not just for Jordan but for all basketball fans to see him do what he did best on a basketball court.
