“My father left us. We didn’t have anywhere to go, so we moved with my mother’s sister kind in the middle of the woods. And they said, ‘They let you play basketball down at the new high school down the road.’ I couldn’t play, but they couldn’t either, so I was on the basketball team.” And that is when his basketball journey began.

Dougie Dwyer, White’s science teacher, believed that to be a basketball player, one must possess a pair of Converse. He also told White that if he manages to get him $10, Dwyer would get him a pair. White then set out on a quest to obtain a pair of Converse. He gathered and cashed in soda bottles to eventually raise the $10 required to buy his desired Converse shoes. This kickstarted his basketball career in high school. However, this was not without adversity.

White committed himself to assisting Lucas in becoming the best player he could be after realizing his potential. Lucas pitched an intriguing career opportunity at Nike to White as he was grateful for his help. This was how he started his career with Nike. And the rest is history.
