Shaquille O’Neal has always been adored and admired by fans and the general public wherever he goes. But O’Neal wasn’t always like this from the jump. It took some drastic and upsetting changes in his life to happen for him to become the beloved friendly giant that he is today. And on his most recent podcast episode, Shaq reflected on it with his co-hosts, Nischelle Turner and Spice Adams.

Shaq and Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, were engaged in a back-and-forth for a couple of weeks on social media. The two have constantly taken jabs and shots at one another, following Ye’s antisemitism controversy and Shaq’s subsequent commentary on it.

Shaquille O’Neal admits he had narcissistic tendencies in the past

On his podcast, The Big Podcast With Shaq, O’Neal got real and made some dark admissions about his past self. Co-host Nischelle Turner mentioned how Kanye kind of came at Shaq. In fact, she felt that Shaq responded in a very ‘adult’ way to Ye’s attacks.

Nischelle then went on to read the traits a narcissist generally possesses and O’Neal agreed with each and every one of them. He said that he had all those traits at one point of time in his life and that was him before he chose to work on himself.

The four-time NBA champion explained what had to happen in his life for him to change his attitude and persona. Shaq admitted that the time he felt the need for introspection was when “when mama left, when the kids left, and my career was over.” The Big Diesel was obviously referring to his divorce from ex-wife Shaunie O’Neal. Incidentally, Shaq has previously assumed full responsibility for his split with Shaunie O’Neal.

“And you know how you fix that? You gotta humble yourself, it’s all about humility,” he added.

Shaquille O’Neal may have been arrogant early during his career. He wanted to prove himself as a player on the court and a provider off of it. O’Neal had finally started to cash in some big checks from the league. Money and fame can be big factors in turning someone into a narcissist, which Shaq had no shortage of since his playing days. However, O’Neal has worked on himself and left that persona of his life behind.

Shaq gives insight into the life of Kanye

O’Neal, Spice, and Turner carried on with their conversation on the traits of a narcissist. O’Neal mentioned his beef with Kanye and that’s when he finally decided to look up the meaning of the word narcissist since it had been associated with Kanye West a lot.

And as soon as he saw the definition of the word, he realized that this was him. Shaq explained why the things happening in Kanye’s life are happening right now. It is because of the way he is acting, and there was a time when O’Neal did the same.

But he has since come a long way from that and is humble in his approach now.
