The NBA offseason is brimming with a lot of massive deals. We have seen money being thrown out at an electric rate. Kyrie Irving landed a massive $126 million deal for three years, and such enormous deals are not surprising for a player of his stature. Role players are also swimming in a lot of money and the bar keeps getting higher. There is another player who has eked out a massive contract and was trash-talking LeBron James recently.

A retired NBA player showered his laurels upon this controversial player.

JJ Redick gives his flowers to a “3 and D” wing

JJ Redick never holds back when giving his props. His valuable input stems from his own background as a player. The former Clippers sharpshooter had huge words for one of the electric shooters in the league. Dillon Brooks had a landmark moment in his career as he signed an $80 million contract with the Houston Rockets that runs for four years.

This is not surprising, since established role players have been asking for contracts in that range. Talking about the contract, JJ Redick had some encouraging words for the defensive phenom, saying that “I’d want a “Dillon Brooks on my team.”

The former Memphis Grizzlies had a tough time shooting the ball in the Postseason, shooting just 31% from the field and below 25% from the three-point range. The Grizzlies couldn’t get past the first round and the Lakers defeated them in six games. Redick has repeatedly defended Brooks after he was blasted for Grizzlies’ performance in the Playoffs. Back then he had also expressed that, “I’d want a guy like that on my team”.

When reports about Grizzlies cutting Brooks multiplied, Kendrick Perkins also came to his defense and told Grizzlies organization “This is not the way to handle it”.

These two players acknowledge the talent level of the stopper and the current contract of $80 million has received acceptance from Redick, who has a lot of faith in his defense. Earlier this year, fans heavily trolled the newly contracted player for his shenanigans against LeBron James.

Brooks and LeBron James had viral moments during the series

Dillon Brooks was constantly yapping on the face of LeBron James during the series between the Grizzlies and the Lakers. When asked about him, he once said to the media, ”I don’t care, he is old.” He also stated, “I don’t respect no one until they give me 40”.

On the entire issue, the experienced stalwart during the Game 3 Post Conference said, “I am making no statements”. LBJ didn’t get even 30 in the series, but he made game-winning shots and was huge on all ends of the floor.

Redick terms Brooks as an agitator and he liked that the Rockets Wing talked big game with the NBA legend. He believes in his ability as an ‘All-NBA Defensive Player’ and also believes that he can thrive in an offensive system suited for him. He won the NBA All-Defensive Second Team honors this season showcasing his elite defense. This contract is a vindication of the analyst’s beliefs.
