For 27-year-old Montrezl Harrell, the sheer contrast between last year and the current one is mind-boggling. Having been heavily criticized for his lack of being able to conduct play as a center-forward, Harrell seems to have found his feet at Washington. The Lakers, having lost hope, decided to offload the powerhouse. Perhaps they will now be regretting their decision. After another impressive win against the Grizzlies, the experienced campaigner decided to take a sly dig at his former side.

Last season, Harrell had a rather abysmal campaign with LeBron James and co. More often than not, he was warming the bench, only playing key roles off of it. He averaged 13.5 points across the season, but never seemed to be in his element. On the other hand, critics have been silenced this year, with the #6 having a breakout year. So far, he has amassed 18 points on average, and has been a vibrant asset in the Washington buildup. Owing to his magnificent performances, the Wizards sit comfortably within the top-8.

Montrezl Harrell takes a dig at Lakers following recent success

The Los Angeles Lakers clearly didn’t find Harrell worthy of being a starter. In close to 70 games last year, he managed to earn himself a start in only one game. It can be argued that Harrell’s natural role is a play maker off the bench, but he has already been the starting center in two games thus far. Evidently unhappy, the 2020 NBA Hustle Award winner took a shot at the yellow brigade.

In Friday’s straight-forward victory, Montrezl Harrell was the top scorer for Unseld Jr.’s side. In an interview after his dominant performance against the Memphis Grizzlies, Harrell addressed the sudden elevation in his form. Asked why and how he’s playing better this year, the former Laker stated, “Montrezl Harrell is on the floor, brother. That’s the biggest difference.” In all likelihood, it was an indirect message to former coach Frank Vogel.
