After the March Madness concluded, news of the impending 2023 WNBA Draft began floating around. On April 10, South Carolina Gamecocks star Aliyah Boston was announced as the first overall pick by the Indiana Fever. It has been a month since Boston was drafted and she recently updated fans on her next huge venture. Along with the exciting announcement, the 21-year-old star also shared a heartfelt message meant for her younger self.
The South Carolina Gamecocks had a pretty good run this year. They made it all the way to the Final Four, where they faced Caitlin Clark’s Iowa Hawkeyes and unfortunately got eliminated. Nonetheless, Boston earned plaudits for her performances which led to her selection as the first overall pick.
Aliyah Boston shares a heartwarming message

The 21-year-old WNBA center recently signed a multiyear contract with Adidas. Their new deal was jointly announced by Aliyah Boston and the $20.19 billion worth sports brand on Instagram. Serving as an introduction, a short video of Boston was shared to break the news. In the clip, Boston opened up about her childhood, her parents, and also the reason she chose to play hoops.
Boston stated that it was her dad who became her source of motivation due to the times he would play hoops with Boston and her sister in a park located in her native place, the Virgin Islands. On the other hand, her mother would push her to aim for the best. According to Boston, her mother would say, “Don’t think you’re really good until your name gets in the papers in the States.”
Reflecting on her journey, Boston shared the message that she would like to give to her younger self. She said, “My journey to where I am now has been a long one. But I would tell younger Aliyah that continue to trust the process because a lot of your hard work has paid off.”

WNBA star signed a multiyear deal with Adidas
Opening up about her decision to seal the deal with the major sports brand, Aliyah stated that it was ‘amazing’ to be part of the Adidas family. She praised the brand for empowering women and providing more opportunities for women’s sports. According to ESPN, in a statement released by the global general manager of Adidas basketball, Eric Wise, he had nothing but praise for Boston. Wise believed that Boston had the ability to “leave a lasting impact on the future of the game.”
