The entire Philadelphia 76ers roster sat down in anticipation, everyone staring at the TV screen. The 2023 NBA MVP was seconds away from being announced. Joel Embiid had finished as the runner-up for the past two seasons. Therefore, after another year of being the scoring leader, he was a front-runner for the award. Charles Barkley, a Sixers legend himself held the result in his hand. As NBA fans might know, Embiid finally had the honor of being called ‘MVP’. James Harden was the first to congratulate his superstar teammate, hugging him as the 29-year-old big man shed tears of joy. However, that wasn’t the only heartwarming gesture “The Beard” had in store for Embiid.
Before playing Game 2 in Boston, the 2018 MVP made a custom gift for Embiid. Not only was it a ‘first’ for him, but the six-time All-Star couldn’t contain himself with excitement.

As a former MVP himself, Harden knew how special the moment is. For Joel Embiid, he had to watch Nikola Jokic trump him for two straight years. The honor was sweeter than ever, and his emotions came pouring out. In just 14 months, “The Beard” has grown close to the 7ft Philly superstar.
To celebrate his much-awaited victory, Harden brought him a special gift, something Embiid hasn’t had in his whole life. Spending $100,000, the 10-time All-Star gifted him a rose gold Rolex. However, it wasn’t just any ordinary watch though. The back of the luxurious piece is inscribed with Embiid?s No. 21 and ?23 MVP.
During a talk with ESPN reporter Malika Andrews, the MVP’s reaction summed up just how excited he was.
“It’s pretty nice,” said Embiid. “It’s my first watch, my first Rolex. I mean, all I know is it’s rose gold, and in the back of it, you got the 2023 MVP. I don’t know what to say.”

The 29-year-old was like a kid in a candy store. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, he didn’t let go of the watch for half an hour. In the video of Harden giving him the gift, Embiid visibly struggled to contain his smile. He immediately hugged his teammate and took the watch to the arena for everyone to see.
“Since he?s been here, I think … he won?t tell me this, but I think he kind of made his goal for me to be the MVP. He?s given up a lot,? said Embiid for James Harden.
