Shaquille O’Neal has used his size and speed to carve out a Hall of Fame career filled with great moments. It won’t be too wrong to state that most of his mainstream fame came from his seven foot one inch frame. He dominated the court whenever he was on it during his peak. Outside the court, his other ventures proved to be a success as well. His rap albums were received really well when released. Hence, his name is very well known among the general public.

Famous rapper 50 Cent once claimed that he had a gun which could “hold Shaq down”.

Shaq has finally given his thoughts on that verse. He thought it was not a diss and appreciated him for taking his name. Shaq said,”I’m not the person you have to call. However, there are people you have to call before you mention their name.”

To put in context, co- host Nischelle Turner mentioned earlier that she just found that rapper Cardi B was shouting out Shaq in the song, “Up”. Hence, she was curious about whether Cardi called Shaq or not. The former player said no and did not mind the name drop at all.

According to him, it is a mark of appreciation when a song mentions your name. He also said that some celebrities think themselves as “too big for their shoes” and take offense when their name is dropped during a song.

Shaq officially declared himself not a “celebrity” due to this. The Lakers big man understands better than most. As said above, he was a rapper and is currently a DJ as well.

Shaquille O’Neal had fairly succesful ventures as a rapper

As a rapper, his most succesful album was his first album, Shaq Diesel which recieved platinum certification. O’Neal was also a guest rapper in Michael Jackson’s album, “HIStory” on the song, “2Bad”.

He has released five studio albums and one compilation album. O’Neal also contributed three tracks to his movie, “Kazaam” which includes songs like, “We Genie“.

Shaq, hence, doesn’t mind his name getting dropped. To him, that’s that the biggest compliment one can recieve from an artist.
