A rare photograph of NBA legends Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain meeting for the first time in 1997 resurfaced recently. And the NBA world can see the physical difference between the two in the picture. There is still much debate regarding who should and should not be included in the GOAT debate. But no one ever doubts Michal Jordan’s status as one of the greatest since his unparalleled legacy and achievements speak for themselves. Then there’s Wilt Chamberlain, who has explained on several occasions before why Jordan is not the GOAT.

Back in 1997, during the All-Star game, the two sporting giants met for the first time. And in the picture, Chamberlian and Jordan can be seen shaking hands. Another noticeable difference is the height difference between the two. Chamberlain, standing at 7’1″, made Jordan’s 6’6″ frame arguably look short.

However, Chamberlian has stated that he believes that during his prime, he was much better than Jordan.

Chamberlian once said, ?I know you?ve already made Michael number one, but if you had to have Wilt against Michael, my prime and his prime, how much money would you be willing to bet??

Wilt Chamberlian got drafted by the Philadelphia Warriors, now the Philadelphia 76ers, in 1959. The Hall of Famer’s career spanned 1,045 games with an average of 30.1 points, 22.9 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and a field goal percentage of 54. Throughout his career, he won two NBA championships in 1967 and 1972. Furthermore, he was a part of 13 All-Star games. Unfortunately, Chamberlain died in 1999 due to heart failure.

Michael Jordan, on the other hand, has an exceptional record of winning each NBA Finals he appeared in, winning six NBA titles with the?Chicago Bulls. Throughout his career, Jordan’s illustrious career spanned 1,071 games in which he averaged 30.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 5.3 assists with a field goal percentage of 49.7.

Chamberlain argued that if Jordan played during his day, he would be crushed by the giants of the time. He went on to play down Jordan and his championship titles by saying, ?I don?t think you can?t predicate how great a guy really is because he has championships. There are a lot of guys on those championship teams who?ve done nothing.??
