Michael Jordan’s daughter Jasmine Jordan recently shared her views on Brittney Griner’s detainment in Russia. The sports marketing professional urged people to support Brittney Griner during the toughest moment of her life and contribute to fulfilling the WNBA star’s biggest wish. Griner is currently serving a nine-year sentence in the IK2-penal colony in Russia. She has been stuck in the foreign country for over nine months with no real hopes of return so far.

Jasmine Jordan addressed the Brittney Griner saga during the 2022 FN Achievement Awards in New York. The 29-year-old is a Jordan Brand basketball field rep for women’s sports marketing. She stated that Griner deserved to return home soon and reunite her wife Cherelle.

Moreover, she talked about people being disrespectful and dismissive about Griner’s situation on the Internet. Jordan claimed that the real picture of Griner’s detention in Russia was different, deeming her incarceration as a “political play”. She also expressed her sadness about BG being used as a political pawn in US-Russia dealings.

Jasmine Jordan urges people to support Brittney Griner in her tough journey ahead

Jasmine Jordan demanded support for Brittney Griner and urged people to raise their voices on the issue. Further, Jordan said, “We’ve got to continue to bring attention to her, we’ve got to continue to speak and pray and be there for her, her family, her wife, etc., because her fight is not over, It’s only beginning.”

She laid out that Griner needed all the support and prayers she could get from her country. The Jordan Brand rep further suggested that people needed to speak up for Griner during her fight which had just begun. Brittney Griner’s distressed wife Cherelle had asked to keep the voice for the release of BG alive. Jordan made sure to contribute in strengthening that wish using her influence in the sports community and beyond.

In this age of social media and the internet, so many people are just dismissive and disrespectful about the situation. It?s not about the charges. It?s a bigger picture taking place,” she added.

In addition, Michael Jordan‘s daughter shared that she had been a huge Brittney Griner fan since her time at Baylor University. Jasmine admired Griner as an athlete and as a person. Thus, it was really heartbreaking for her to see BG in such a terrible situation.

Russia informed US Embassy about Griner’s transfer

Brittney Griner was transferred to the IK-2 penal colony on November 8 in the far-off region of Mordovia. As per a reports, the Kremlin formally informed the US Embassy about Griner’s transfer last week.

On December 1, a spokesperson of the State Department revealed that the US Embassy in Russia was notified about BG’s transfer on November 23. The information about Griner came two weeks after she was moved to Mordovia.

The US government awaits a positive response from Russia about a potential prisoner swap deal. They have offered to release convicted Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout in exchange for Brittney Griner and Paul Whelan. Their Russian counterparts have shown a positive attitude toward making a deal but the swap is yet to be finalized.
